
The requirements for the new Pallant Bookshop website were:
- New design with a modern look
- Display the products more clearly and emphasise the art
- Better search functionality
- Easier checkout process
- Differentiation between the three main sections of products
- Mobile-friendly responsive design
To achieve these we used consistent design elements, good typography and colour-coded the three main areas of the website. An improved interface was designed which increased the size of the product images; it was important to emphasise the imagery for the products. The typeface, Franklin Gothic URW, is used consistently throughout the site for headers and body copy and is also now used for printed material. The site is fully responsive to allow people to easily purchase from all devices.

An improved search mechanism allows visitors to find what they want quicker, and we worked on a new streamlined purchasing route which allowed the customer to make an easy journey from browsing through to checkout. All of the products have searchable, valid custom fields to give the user a simple and useful breakdown of the product information. The website was migrated to WordPress (with WooCommerce) and this allowed the flexibility of running a large ecommerce shop whilst adding an easy-to-use interface and blogging functionality.
