Astor Hostels, an independent family run youth hostel group, has been welcoming travellers to London from all parts of the world for over 40 years. Our brief was to update their brand and design and build a website that fits their youthful target market and makes best use of social media. Working closely with the team at Astor we created a framework, assessed the marketplace and competition and then set about creating a selection of visuals to provoke discussion. While the designs for the web progressed we also worked on their new identity. The brief was to move away from the old figurative logo and create a stronger more recognisable brand. As well as the logotype which is based on the lettershapes ‘A’ and ‘H’ we came up with the Loving London tagline, swapping the ‘O’ for a heart.
The site is built in WordPress, a lightweight Content Management System (CMS) which is extremely flexible and scaleable. Based on the user analytics we obtained from the old site and current user trends we built a fully responsive site tailored to cater for mobile, tablet and desktop visitors. The site makes use of the major social channels and has it’s own dedicated YouTube channel. Videos posted here are pulled into the site with a simple one click integration.
